Derrick Quevedo is a Baltimore-based, Connecticut-born and raised artist. He received his BFA from the University of Hartford and his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and has shown his work throughout the East Coast. Through drawings of Baltimore’s AAPI community and self-portraits, he addresses issues concerning diasporic Pilipinx identity, mental health, body positivity, and feminism. In his paintings, Quevedo observes color through abstraction. Applying one note of color at a time, he studies how each addition affects the previous ones, simplifying the activity on the surface accordingly to create a glow of ephemeral flux emanating from the work.
