Cherisse Alcantara (b. 1986, Philippines) is a painter who is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a first generation Filipino American who received her B.A. in Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley in 2013. She had her first solo exhibition at Pence Gallery in 2017, and has exhibited in numerous galleries including Vessel Gallery (Oakland), Arc Gallery (San Francisco), Pence Gallery (Davis), Worth Ryder Gallery, Berkeley Art Center, and the Piedmont Center for the Arts. Themes of isolation, metamorphosis, transformation, mythical quest and the search for identity and belonging, as an immigrant, minority woman, and an adoptee, are explored through the figure in an atmospheric and moody space in her open-ended narratives. She was recently awarded a residency at Jentel Artist Residency.
